About Chef Rene Hewitt

Chef Rene Hewitt is a culinary professional, educator, and lifelong advocate for healthy cooking. He discovered his passion for food not early in life which help turn his newfound love into a career dedicated to teaching and inspiring others. He was a club DJ at the Inferno for years. Then he moved on and is a graduate of Hudson County Community College, where he studied Culinary Arts, and Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he studied International Hospitality and Tourism.


He later hosted his own television food show with director, videographer Lauro Rosas Felix, “In the Kitchen with Chef Rene Hewitt”, on the Comcast Xfinity Network for four years, where he shared creative recipes and encouraged families to cook together. In addition to his work in media, Chef Rene is the founder of a successful fruit jam company, “Chef Rene’s Hewitt’s Jams”. He has operated for more than five years and sells his fruit jams during the summer at Riverview Farmer’s Market in Jersey City Heights, NJ, crafting small-batch, natural jams loved by his community.


Today, his book "When Mommy Needs Help" has been accepted in the Library of Congress in Washington DC. Rene also teaches in the Continuing Education department at Hudson County Community College, where he helps people of all ages gain confidence in the kitchen. He also
serves as President of the HCCC Alumni Association at Hudson County Community College and is working to support education, mentorship, and community engagement. 

 

Chef Rene says, “Stay far away from those who don’t support your journey. Look straight ahead because they will try to pull you down.”
